Jet Age Museum with surface fit for “take off” thanks to Cheltenham Surfacing

Gloucestershire firm Cheltenham Surfacing have recently completed a prestigious surfacing project at cost for the Gloucestershire Jet Age Museum, giving the museum a great boost and making it completely accessible to visitors, whatever their mode of transport.

The Jet Age Museum is Gloucestershire’s newest visitor attraction and it pays tribute to the pivotal role that the county has played in the history of aviation. The museum which is registered charity and run entirely by volunteers were in need of surfacing to both the access road and car parking.

When approached by the Jet Age Museum we were delighted to be able to help and progress this fitting tribute to Gloucestershire’s aviation heritage. By carrying out the project on a materials and labour cost basis, hopefully we will help the museum’s plan to continue to improve the attraction. Whilst the surface will not see regular aircraft traffic it is designed to withstand aircraft movement and visiting aircraft. Only last year we worked on another aviation related project when we extended the helipad at Gloucester Hospital.

The works included final preparation of the existing sub-base, macadam surfacing to roads and completing the car park spaces with a loose chipping finish.

Due to an opening deadline the works were completed in just one day, thanks to Cheltenham Surfacing providing additional labour to ensure a finished job within the restricted time scale.

We are extremely grateful for Cheltenham Surfacing’s support on our project, particularly as they pulled out all the stops to meet our deadline. They join a growing list of Gloucestershire companies that have supported us with either financial or practical support. It is absolutely brilliant that the business community is getting behind us in this way, without which we simply couldn’t have opened the museum by now.
